Boldly Go Campaign Update

Our intent in launching the Boldly Go campaign was to help channel Gene Roddenberry’s vision of a better future into real-world change. To do so, we explored the concept of creating an NFT in order to raise funds for non-profits working on the causes highlighted by your submissions. We were committed to pursuing this in a responsible, ethical, and eco-friendly manner, but we realize that this campaign is not the place to try and navigate the inherent challenges with this medium. As a result, we will not be pursuing an NFT.

As we approach the end of the year, we’d like to take a moment to explain what the next steps will look like for the Boldly Go campaign.

Once all of your submissions have been collected, they will be crafted into a single, representative work of art that memorializes our collective vision for a better future. That artwork will be engraved on a series of Planet satellites that will be sent into space as a first-of-its-kind space-based art installation. Additionally, the artwork will be displayed digitally so that anyone, anywhere can access it.

Here on earth, we are still committed to exploring ethical ways to leverage the campaign to make real-world change by raising funds that will support non-profits working on themes and priorities that have emerged during the campaign.
